  • Saturday Courses: The first start on day 1 will be 0900, last start at 1200, and the first shuttle from the Meet HQ (Camp Buckner) will go at 0815. People should allow 20 minutes for the shuttle ride and 15 minutes for the walk to the start.
  • Saturday Dinner: 1800
  • Sunday Courses:The first start on day 2 will be 0800, last start at 1100, and the first shuttle will be at 0730.  The shuttle ride will last 5 minutes, and drop off will be right at the start area.
  • Sunday Awards: 1400

Barth Hall, the traditional relaxation and dinner location, is under renovation and will not be be used this year.

FYI: The barracks are unheated Camp Buckner, so please plan accordingly

 

BASIC INFORMATION

Terrain, Climate, and Hazards:  Nestled in the scenic Hudson Highlands, West Point’s terrain offers a challenging orienteering experience, with rocky hills, steep valleys varied forests, and challenging marshes.

Maps:

Day 1 (afternoon) ap: Sprint at Camp Buckner (1:5,000), part of the 2006 Sprint Series, start anytime between 2 and 4 pm right from the parking lot at Camp Buckner. One course, 2.8 km, 100 meters climb, 18 controls. Registration in advance requested. Proceeds to benefit the US Team.

Day 1 map:  Lake Popolopen 1:15000 for Green courses and above, 1:10000 for Brown and below.

Day 2 map:  Long Mountain 1:15000 for Green courses and above, 1:10000 for Brown and below.

Competitive Courses: Blue, Red, Green, Brown, Orange, Yellow and White will all have competitive and open categories.

Awards: To the top three finishers in each competitive category.

Lodging and Meals: Saturday night dinner will be catered (same caterer as last year--great chow!) and is an additional $10; lodging in the Bays at Camp Buckner is available for $6/night.  Be sure to bring your own towels and linens or sleeping bags.

    There will be a concession stand near Barth Hall both Saturday and Sunday--proceeds will support the USOF College Orienteering Fund. 

They will offer continental breakfast Saturday (8-10am) and Sunday (7:30-9:30 am): 

  •     Assorted Homemade muffins
  •     Assorted Bagels toasted with Cream Cheese
  •     Breakfast Sausage patty sandwich with or without cheese
  •     Fruit - bananas, orange & apples
  •     Hot water for coffee, tea, and hot chocolate

and lunch Saturday (10:30-2:30) and Sunday (10-2):

  •     Homemade chicken noodle soup
  •     Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers
  •     Sausage Grillers - Reg. & spicy
  •     Hot dogs
  •     Veggie burgers
  •     Assorted individual bags of chips
  •     Brownies & cookies
  •     Assorted cans of soda and ice tea

Entry Fees: Entry Fee’s are $23 for adults, $18 for Juniors (under 19) and $10 for recreational courses per day.

E-punch: E-punch cards are $2 per day to rent.  You must use e-punching for competitive courses.

fSafety Note:  Black flies and ticks are alive and well here at West Point during spring.  Bring appropriate clothing and repellant.

Registration: The deadline to avoid late fee’s is 21 April 2006. A $5 late fee per day will be applied after that date.  No "Day-of" registrations will be accepted for competitive courses. Tee shirts are $10 and are limited to the first 150 orienteerers.
