The United States Military Academy Orienteering Club
will host its 32nd Annual
Orienteering USA Sanctioned A Meet
30 April - 1 May 2011.

We are offering three O-USA sanctioned races:
middle, sprint, and long disciplines.

We will use a three race combined awards structure

  • 20 April 2011: Registration table opening time changed for Saturday and Sunday from 0600 to 0700.

Officials

Venues:

  • Saturday 30 April 2011: Round Pond Recreation Area
  • Sunday 01 May 2011: Area K Parking Lot. This venue is an austere site. Portable toilets will be available.

Events:

  • Middle Distance Course: Our middle distance race will be Saturday morning, 0900-1100 start times. 1:10,000 ISOM map vicinity Black Rock Forest. Course Designer Hannah Burgess.

  • Sprint Distance Course: Our sprint distance race will be Saturday afternoon, 1300-1500 start times. New ISSOM 1:5,000 map, produced by Jordan Laughlin. Course Designer Nolan Miles.

  •  Long Distance Course: Our long distance race will be Sunday morning, 0800-1000 start times. 1:10,000 map vicinity Lake Stilwell/Long Mountain. Course Designer Keith Andersen.

  •  College O Fund Concession Stand: Janet Porter will be organizing a concession stand on Saturday at Round Pond to Benefit the College O Fund.  Come by and get fueled up during the day.

There will not be a Saturday evening dinner or Silent Auction this year.

Recreational (white, yellow, and orange) Courses will be available on all races.

Other events occurring at West Point to be aware of:

  • West Point Boy Scout Camporee at Lake Frederick. Participants at this event will be utilizing parking in the vicinity of Camp Buckner and Camp Natural Bridge. There will also be a National Guard Engineering organization at Camp Natural Bridge this weekend.

  • Main Post Area: Class of 1951 Reunion, Military Appreciation Day, Kosciuszko Memorial, Special Olympics, Lacrosse Patriot League Championships, Army Softball versus Bucknell, Men's Soccer versus New Paltz, Army Rugby versus Navy

Parking: Parking will be available at both venues at no charge. Please look for the parking attendant.

GPS Rentals: We will offering GPS tracking devices (QStarz BT-Q1300S) for rental. We will also have a downloading station available after the races.

Zero to Orange Training Class: Bob Turbyfill's Zero to Orange Training Class is scheduled for early Friday morning through Sunday afternoon.  Register separately with this form: Zero to Orange Registration Form

Waiver: All participants must sign a waiver. Waivers will be available to sign when you pickup your race packet. If you would like, you can print and sign your waiver ahead of time.

Lodging:

  • Hotels in the areas can be found here.

  • Camping will be available at Round Pond for a fee. 
    Tent sites $15/night, Camper sites $25 w/utilities/Pop-up, $20 w/electric & water/Pop-up $15 w/out utilities. Make reservation at the Round Pond Facility directly by calling(845) 938-2503/3860. Ensure to let them know you are with the Orienteering event.

  • SOLD OUT: A limited number of small cabins that sleep 4 will be available at Round Pond Recreation Area. The cost is $100.00 for the weekend. For more info and to reserve a cabin contact Mike Hendricks

  • 1800: Packet pick up at Round Pond's Bonneville Cabin
  • 2200: Packet pick up closes

Saturday May 1st:

  • 0700: Registration opens at Round Pond's Bonneville Cabin
  • 0900: First starts middle distance
  • 1100: Last starts middle distance
  • 1300: First starts sprint distance
  • 1500: Last starts sprint distance

Sunday May 2nd:

  • 0700: Registration opens at Area K Parking Area
  • 0800: First starts long distance
  • 1000: Last starts long distance
  • TBD: Awards

Awards:

  • Individual combined sprint/middle/long awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.
