Why Math??? Math is a very useful discipline because it lies at the intersection of the Math, Science, and Engineering (MSE) disciplines. Every MSE program requires you to have advanced math skills. This is very important for future schooling. Many graduate engineering students have wished they had a stronger math background as an undergraduate. As a mathematics major you will gain those important math skills while still taking an engineering track of your choice. Such a program leaves many options open in the future.

COURSES During your Second Class year, you can expect to take what we refer to as "Breadth" courses -- those that introduce you to the many facets of the world of mathematics. During your First Class year, you will take several "Depth" courses generally in one of two tracks (Statistics/Optimization or Applied Math), allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of topics you are interested in. The program is capped off with a semester-long research capstone opportunity, pairing you one-on-one with a senior member of the Math faculty to work on a problem of interest to you.
